Kate Vinen

Tutor - Short Courses

Kate Vinen is an award-winning writer/director who works across narrative and documentary. Her film ‘Acts for the Invisible’ won the prestigious CILECT CAPA Best Film: Documentary (2022), and her film ‘Hopeful Romantic’ won five awards, including Best Film, at the 2023 Australian Women’s Film Festival. Kate is a 2022 alumni of the international Playlab Films Creators Lab (Amazon Jungle) where she directed a short film under the tutelage of Palme d’Or winning director Apichatpong Weerathesakul. She is a 2023 alumni of the Adelaide Film Festival’s EXPAND Lab and was shortlisted for the $100,000 Samstag Moving Image Commission with her project ‘The Ingress’.

Kate’s films have screened in festivals including Oscar-Qualifying Flickerfest, Sydney Film Festival, Short Shorts (Japan), Oska Bright Film Festival (UK), DocEdge (NZ), Melbourne Women’s Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival (USA), Mardi Gras Queerscreen Film Festival, and Les Rencontres International (Paris & Berlin) and NewFilmmakers New York. Kate is a graduate of the Graduate Certificate in Directing (2010) and the Masters in Screen: Documentary Directing (2018-2020) at Australian Film Television and Radio School.
