Jonathan Ogilvie

Tutor - Short Courses

Jonathan Ogilvie is a feature film screenwriter and director. He is a graduate of AFTRS.

His immersion in the Australian and NZ independent music scene led to an early career making music videos for renowned Australasian bands. While living in London in the 1980s, he worked on several feature films including Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket.

Following back-to-back official competition selections of his short films at the Cannes Film Festival, Ogilvie’s The Tender Hook (starring Hugo Weaving and Rose Byrne) was nominated for five Australian Film Institute awards and an Australian Writers Guild Award (AWGIE) for Best Feature Screenplay.

Ogilvie’s Lone Wolf (2019) stars Hugo Weaving and Tilda Cobham-Hervey. It premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Head South is his second AWGIE nomination for Best Feature Screenplay. It opened the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2024 and sold-out its screenings at the Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand film festivals.

Head South releases in Australian cinemas from 3 April 2025.
