Peter Cox is an award-winning television writer and creator who works across a broad range of genres.
Peter’s first series was The Insider’s Guide to Happiness which won six awards at the 2002 NZ Film and Television Awards, including Best Script and Best Drama Series, screening on SBS in Australia. Since, Peter has developed and/or created TV series in both drama and comedy with platforms as diverse as SBS, Foxtel, Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount/Viacom and NBCUniversal UK.
As creator, Peter’s series have won more than 30 NZ Film and TV awards (including two further best NZ drama series awards), and been distributed in Australia, Canada, the UK, Asia, Europe, and the US. Most recently Peter won a 2021 Australian Writers’ Guild Award, Best Mini-Series Screenplay for historical crime drama New Gold Mountain, of which he was creator/head writer/co-producer.
Peter also has a PhD in Creative Writing, focusing on collaborative creative process, and served for four terms as the president of the NZ Writers’ Guild.
