Learn the fundamentals of creating viable and original TV series concepts. In this online Creating a TV Series Bootcamp, you will spend 10 weeks learning the essentials of a successful TV series, from developing a strong “story world” and a range of engaging characters, to creating series and episode story arcs and how to structure your pilot episode.
Through interactive lectures and tutorials taught by Australia’s premier showrunners and creators, you will gain industry insights and individual feedback as you complete written exercises and work towards conceptualising your idea.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:

Analyse and apply different series formats, structure and narrative arcs.
Create key script documents necessary to take an idea from concept to pitch.

Creating a TV Series Bootcamp is a comprehensive course covering the fundamentals of TV series writing and development, with the opportunity to submit written exercises and receive individual feedback from your industry expert tutor.
It is expected that students entering this course can recognise the principles of screenwriting and cinematic narrative; define the key concepts of theme, premise, storyworld and characterisation; and identify how to structure and format your screenwriting as covered in our Intro to Screenwriting course.
This course is ideal for aspiring television writers and students wanting to learn TV writing skills and develop original concepts, as well as established film or theatre writers looking to break into TV writing. It is also ideal for actors, directors, content creators and podcasters wanting to develop long-form content for TV and streaming, and industry professionals seeking to understand the writing process and collaborate better with screenwriters.
Please note that the intention of the course is to equip you with the ability and skills to build upon the foundations of an idea, providing a pathway to developing engaging, viable TV Series. You will not have a completed series script by the end of the course.
Course Requirements and Delivery
Creating a TV Series Bootcamp is an online course that consists of 2 x Zoom sessions per week across 10 weeks and 3 hours of self-directed learning per week. You will need access to a desktop or laptop computer with a camera, sound and a reliable internet connection for the evening Zoom sessions.
