Master the skills of videomaking

Unpack the technical, creative and logistical considerations of making video content in this videomaking crash course. Video is an essential component of marketing, education and communication, and in this hands-on video course, you will learn the skills to shoot, edit and publish professional-quality content for your website, social media and more. 

In this five-day intensive, you will work with professional DSLR and video cameras, sound and lighting equipment, and editing tools to produce a 2–3-minute unscripted video. In addition to mastering basic camera operation and videomaking principles through practical exercises in AFTRS Studios, computers labs and on location, you will also develop skills in interviewing and an understanding of video storytelling. 

At the end of this course, you will be able to: 

Implement interview techniques, scene coverage and planning for effective visual storytelling. 

Demonstrate efficient operation of DSLR camera, sound and lighting equipment. 

Apply knowledge of post-production processes to manage data, edit, and export your video.

This videomaking course is suitable for beginners looking to grow their skills in video production and content creation. 

This course is ideal for corporate video producers, marketing and communications professionals, and content creators looking to gain practical, ready-to-use skills and elevate their video content production. It is also ideal for filmmakers and content creators who want to start producing interviews.

Course Requirements and Delivery

Videomaking Intensive is an in-person course taught over 5 consecutive days, 9:30am – 5:00pm, involving interactive lectures and tutorials as well as hands-on group shooting exercises and individual editing exercises. 

AFTRS will provide all the equipment required for this course, however participants are welcome to bring their own equipment to use in some of the exercises. Practical exercises will take place in AFTRS Studios and nearby outdoor locations (weather permitting), so you must wear enclosed shoes.

If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund. Cancellations 14 days or less before course commencement will incur a penalty.

AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled by AFTRS prior to commencement a 100% refund or credit note of the course fees paid will be provided.

Should AFTRS need to cancel a course after commencement, but before its completion, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule. If rescheduling is not feasible, it is at AFTRS sole discretion to issue either full or partial credit notes depending on the circumstances.

AFTRS will make every effort to ensure the scheduled run of any course.
