Develop essential camera and sound operation skills

Build a strong foundation of camera and sound basics so you can deliver optimal picture and sound every time. In this practical Camera & Sound Workshop, you will learn essential techniques and how to plan and implement them to produce high quality images and sound for screen productions. 

Working with professional full-frame cameras, sound and lighting equipment, gain skills and knowledge in framing and coverage, camera setup and audio recording, working with different lighting conditions, and working in solo or two-person crews versus larger crews and projects. 

At the end of this course, you will be able to:  

Demonstrate efficient operation of industry standard full-frame cinema camera. 

Implement professional audio practices to capture quality sound.

Understand essential shooting considerations including framing, lighting and coverage.

Is the Camera & Sound Workshop right for you?

This course is a hands-on, technical camera and sound workshop for beginners, with no previous experience or knowledge required. 

This course is ideal for beginner filmmakers, content creators, videographers and producers looking to develop foundational camera and sound skills for filmmaking. It is also ideal for creatives such as graphic designers, visual artists, photographers and writers who want to explore video as a medium to share and amplify their work. 

Course Delivery & Requirements

Camera & Sound Workshop is an in-person course that takes place over 2 days face-to-face, 9:30am – 5:00pm. 

AFTRS will provide all the equipment required for this course, participants are not permitted to bring their own equipment. Practical exercises will take place in AFTRS Studios and nearby outdoor locations (weather permitting), so you must wear enclosed shoes.

This course is for students aged 18+ only.

If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund. Cancellations 14 days or less before course commencement will incur a penalty.

AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled by AFTRS prior to commencement a 100% refund or credit note of the course fees paid will be provided.

Should AFTRS need to cancel a course after commencement, but before its completion, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule. If rescheduling is not feasible, it is at AFTRS’ sole discretion to issue either full or partial credit notes depending on the circumstances.

AFTRS will make every effort to ensure the scheduled run of any course.
