Explore the world of Screen Production
Learn about the production process and the key roles in the Australian screen industry. The On Set Onboarding course is a combination of classroom-based and experiential learning designed to equip you with the skills and confidence to work in a professional screen production industry environment.
This course features a simulated set activity with professional equipment and experienced crew, giving each participant an opportunity to cycle through several departments to understand their interdependence. Taught by leading industry professionals, you will experience the collaborative process of screen production.
Outline the production process – how film and TV shows go from script to screen
Understand and describe key skills and processes expected of entry–level crew members across the different roles of the production office, production set and unit base
Understand how employment works in the screen sector including how to design your resume, develop networks and advance your skills
Is On Set Onboarding right for you?
This course is designed to provide ‘must-have’ basic film knowledge, etiquette and protocols required in pursuing a career in the Australian screen industry.
This course is ideal for people in a range of industries with transferrable skills, such as accounting or construction, but has have limited experience on professional sets, or for those looking for entry-level roles in the screen industry.
This course is only open to students aged 18+
Course Requirements and Delivery
On Set Onboarding is an in-person course taught over 3-days, 9:30am – 5:00pm including classroom sessions and an on-set activity. Classroom sessions will take place at The Mercury and Day 2 production activities will take place at our studio partner Star Avenue Studios.
AFTRS will provide all the equipment required for this course. Practical exercises will take place in studios or on location, so you must wear enclosed shoes. Students may want to bring their own means of note taking i.e. notepad & pen or personal device. All other materials will be provided.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This course is for students aged 18+ only.
If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund. Cancellations 14 days or less before course commencement will incur a penalty.
AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled by AFTRS prior to commencement a 100% refund or credit note of the course fees paid will be provided.
Should AFTRS need to cancel a course after commencement, but before its completion, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule. If rescheduling is not feasible, it is at AFTRS sole discretion to issue either full or partial credit notes depending on the circumstances.
AFTRS will make every effort to ensure the scheduled run of any course.

This decision is dependent on course enrolments meeting minimum numbers. AFTRS is not liable for any travel or accommodation costs incurred through course cancellation at any time for any reason.
