Intro to Media Skills

Boost your media and communication skills

In this evolving digital world, media skills are increasingly required by everyone, regardless of their role. Having basic media skills in your communication toolbox means you are prepared to respond appropriately when “no comment” just doesn’t cut it.

Delivered by Walkley Award-winning journalist, broadcaster and author, Tracey Spicer AM, this two-hour online workshop is an ideal entry point to understanding the media, its opportunities and its challenges.

Intro to Media Skills will equip you with the critical thinking to discern which interviews are worthwhile, and the tools to remain calm under pressure. You’ll learn about key messaging, bridging phrases, and crisis communications.

Explore the different types of media, and what they expect from an interview.

Develop strategies for staying on message and on brand.

Increase your authenticity and impact.

“Easy to digest, appropriate content for time frame, well delivered, great amount of engagement required from participants without the engagement eroding the content or deliver.”

- Business Banking Executive

"Tracey was extremely personable and made everyone feel validated and at ease. The content was easy to understand and Tracey used real life examples that I knew to communicate points."

- Manager, Non-profit/NGO

"The facilitator, Tracey Spicer, was dynamic and engaging, she gave real world examples to demonstrate skills and advice shared within the session and kept the session running smoothly. This course is ideal for those new to, or about to embark on, interactions with media, particularly for the purpose of interviewing or speaking to camera."
