Master the skills of filmmaking
Take a short film script from page to screen as you explore each step of the filmmaking process. Explore the technical, creative and logistical considerations of filmmaking over five days of practical and collaborative learning in the classroom and on set.
In this hands-on filmmaking course, you will be guided through lectures and fast-paced practical exercises by industry professionals to immerse yourself in the major areas of directing, cinematography and post-production.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
Analyse how a script is interpreted by key creatives and crew to be production ready.
Implement industry standard on-set practices across directing, cinematography, sound, and the art department.
Apply knowledge of post-production processes to manage data, edit, and sound mix.
Is the Filmmaking Intensive right for you?
This filmmaking course is suitable for beginners or early-career professionals to the screen industry or specifically the filmmaking discipline. No prior knowledge or experience required.
This course is ideal for aspiring and emerging filmmakers looking to enhance their skills and participate in the filmmaking process from start to finish. It is also ideal for media students and professionals, videographers, content creators and other professionals looking for a practical introduction to film production.
Course Requirements and Delivery
Filmmaking Intensive is an in-person course taught over 5 consecutive days, 9:30am – 5:00pm.
AFTRS will provide all the equipment required for this course. Practical exercises will take place in AFTRS Studios, editing labs and mix theatre so you must wear enclosed shoes. Students may want to bring their own means of note taking i.e. notepad & pen or personal device.
Full course price: $1800 (pricing subject to change, please check enrolment form).

This course is for students aged 18+ only.
If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund. Cancellations 14 days or less before course commencement will incur a penalty.
AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled by AFTRS prior to commencement a 100% refund or credit note of the course fees paid will be provided.
Should AFTRS need to cancel a course after commencement, but before its completion, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule. If rescheduling is not feasible, it is at AFTRS sole discretion to issue either full or partial credit notes depending on the circumstances.
AFTRS will make every effort to ensure the scheduled run of any course.
