Short Courses: What's On in November?

Where are you in the journey of bringing your screen project to life? Whether you’re just starting to shape your idea, gearing up to shoot, or managing the financial details, dive into one of our upcoming short courses designed to support you through every phase of screen creation. From testing the viability of a TV series concept, to mastering camera and sound operations, to sharpening your financial skills behind-the-scenes, find the course that best suits you and your screen project needs.

If you’re in the ideation stage of your project, learn the fundamentals of creating viable and original TV series concepts in Creating a TV Series Bootcamp. Across 10 weeks online with acclaimed showrunner and writer Susan Bower (Home and Away, McLeod’s Daughters), learn the essentials of creating a successful TV series, from the importance of having a strong “story engine” to examining and practice developing engaging characters that drive the narrative. Take the opportunity to gain individual feedback through written exercises as you work towards conceptualising your idea. If it’s a true story you’re looking to tell, dive into our upcoming Intro to Documentary course to explore the world of documentary filmmaking.

Ready to take your project into production? Camera & Sound Workshop can help you build your operational skills to produce high quality images and sound for screen productions. Spend two days in AFTRS’ Studios and on location working with industry-standard equipment and implementing hands-on techniques for coverage, framing and lighting under the guidance of experienced shooter-producer Rob Gunn. No matter what the style or genre of your screen project is, develop the foundational camera and sound skills needed to get underway.

Every screen project needs someone dedicated to managing the financial plan. If you have an accounting background and are looking to transition into the screen industry, the in-demand role of a production accountant might be the perfect fit for you. Production Accounting Intensive is a five-day course where you will develop a strong understanding of a screen budget, finance plan, and the obligations and requirements across each stage of production. Gain experience with industry-standard software and learn from industry experts offering insights into the field.
