Short Courses: What's on in August?

As filmmaker and AFTRS trainer Nick Bolton says in his three top tips for storytelling for business, “it’s not what you think that matters.” This quote encapsulates a fundamental truth of content creation for brands and businesses: understanding your audience is paramount. When writing, briefing or creating video or audio content, knowing who you are speaking to makes all the difference in telling engaging stories that resonate and connect with your audience.

Dive into an AFTRS For Business course this month where you’ll learn how to research and understand your audience, helping you create content to build better relationships, foster loyalty and start conversions.

Storytelling for Business is a one-day, in person course that covers everything you need to come up with a great story idea for your video, organisation or pitch. From defining your audience and the story you want to tell, to the five key elements of a powerful story, you’ll have the opportunity to workshop your ideas and incorporate the creative techniques used by filmmakers.

“Previously I have only focused on the content, but not too much thought has been given to the way the audience receives the content or the way they digest the content. The course has really opened my eyes to how important this consideration is and is something that I will really take away from the course.” – Storytelling for Business student

To take your story idea and turn it into powerful video content, join our upcoming Brief to Script to Great Video online course. Learn how to brief your ideas and write video scripts that create a visual ‘storyworld’ with producer and director Helen Campbell, who offers her insights and expertise in this practical workshop on video storytelling and technique.

“I particularly enjoyed the focus on finding/knowing your audience and how, in many ways, that is the key to the success or otherwise of a video.” – Brief to Script to Great Video student

If audio storytelling is for you, Podcasting for your Brand returns this month. With more and more Australians listening to podcasts, this is a great outlet for you or your brand to communicate with your audience. Across two days on campus, you will learn how to identify your audience and podcast niche, at the same time learning techniques for scripting, writing show notes and producing.

“Good mix of theory and practice, great hands-on experience, great trainer, encouragement of interactivity.” – Podcasting for your Brand student
