Short Courses: Upskill this December

December is the perfect time to get ahead for the new year and this month’s courses are here to help you do just that. Designed for you to build the skills you need to enter the industry prepared and confident, our December offerings include a range of introductory to intensive courses to help you kickstart or accelerate your career.

With courses available in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and online, now’s the time to expand your expertise and set the stage for a successful new year no matter where you’re learning from.

New to Melbourne and Perth

In an exciting new partnership between AFTRS and RMIT University’s School of Media and Communication, we are thrilled to deliver the first of four short courses that are directly addressing the screen skills shortages identified in Victoria this December.

Production Accounting Intensive (Melbourne) offers the specialised skills and training to help you fast-track your career as a production accountant. From developing a strong understanding of a screen budget and finance plan, to hands-on experience with industry-standard production accounting software, this course is ideal for producers, line producers and production managers looking to bolster their production budget management skills, or accountants looking to transition into the screen industry.

We’ve also partnered with Edith Cowan University to deliver our Intro to Producing & Screen Business course in Perth! Led by industry expert Peter Herbert, understand the role of a producer, from developing a project to bringing it to market, screen business fundamentals and the state of the screen industry over two days at ECU Mount Lawley Campus.

Understand the fundamentals of visual effects and animation

As post-production growth continues to rise across the country, supported by incentives from Australia’s screen agencies, now is a great time to dive into the world of visual effects and animation for the first time. Intro to VFX & 3D Animation is led by industry expert Alexander Hoetzer and explores the workflows, processes and tasks involved in visual effects and animation for film, while examining the opportunities and pathways into the industry.

Upgrade your communications toolbox

It’s essential to have the skills and confidence to deliver a presentation or interview that leaves a lasting impact, whether that be for pitching a project or presenting to your colleagues. In Presentation Skills and Intro to Media Skills, you’ll learn how you can improve your content delivery, craft and refine your key messages, and understand and engage your audience. Recently completing Presentation Skills at AFTRS, NBCUniversal ANZ highlighted their key takeaways from the course and renewed confidence in presenting in a recent case study.
