AFTRS Master of Arts Screen film Reunion, directed by Gilbert Kemp Attrill, will screen to audiences for the first time at Adelaide Film Festival, alongside several other films showcasing the work of AFTRS alumni set to premiere. Between 19 and 30 October, the annual festival will bring over 120 films from more than 40 countries—22 of those being world premieres—to theatres and venues across Adelaide, along with a series of talks and special events.
Completed as part of the Master of Arts Screen studies in 2021, Reunion was made by a crew comprising mostly of AFTRS graduates including writer/director Kemp Attrill, writer Gerard Dewhurst, producer Charles Olsen, cinematographer Hamish Gregory, editor Sam Grammer and composer Lena Matienko.
Reunion follows a lovesick young man who reunites with his oblivious long-distance boyfriend on a whirlwind summer holiday. His reality and expectations collide, and he must search for what he needs within himself. Fellow alumni Simon Croker stars in the film, alongside Zoran Jevtic, Ariadne Sgouros and Sam Marques.
Several films featuring the work of AFTRS alumni are also set to premiere. Madeleine Parry’s The Angels: Kickin’ Down The Door, featuring sound effects editing by AFTRS alum Alicia Slusarski, will have its world premiere as part of AFF’s special Opening Night Gala. Several features will make their debut as part of the AFF Investment Fund: Rolf De Heer’s The Survival of Kindness, You Can Go Now, directed by Larissa Behrendt and executive produced by Paul Wiegard; Jolyon Hoff’s Watandar: My Countryman; Talk To Me, featuring production design by alum Bethany Ryan; and Monolith, with editing by Tania Nehme, original music by Benjamin Speed and production design by Jonah Booth-Remmers.
Festival-goers will also be able to catch plenty of titles that have been attracting audiences at major festivals across the globe. See the full program and get tickets here.
