AFTRS alumni have been recognised among Australia’s most exciting production design talent, receiving two prizes at the special 10th anniversary edition of the Australian Production Design Guild Awards.
For the milestone ceremony, the Australian Production Design Guild presented honours across 23 categories including feature film, television, animation, short film, web series, music videos, commercials and more.
Melinda Doring (Master of Arts (Film & Television) Design, 1997) has been honoured in the Production Design for a Television Production category, alongside fellow alumni, art director Mandi Bialek Wester (Master of Arts (Film & Television) Design, 1998) and set decorator Lauren Richards (Graduate Diploma: Production Design, 2010) for their work on Stateless. Doring also claimed the 2021 AACTA Award for Best Production Design in Television for her contribution to the acclaimed series.
Set decorator, Bethany Ryan (Graduate Diploma in Production Design, 2012) has also been recognised for her work on Starr Park, an advertisement for multiplayer online game, Brawl Stars. The design team, led by production designer Steven Jones-Evans, claimed Best Design for a Commercial, which follows two BAFTA Games Award wins for the mobile app.
AFTRS alumni proved fierce competition this year, contending for 11 awards at this year’s ceremony. Winners were announced in a virtual event, which streamed live from Brisbane on 7 November. You can read more about the event and view the full list of winners here.
