Three AFTRS Alumni Are Nominated for Emmy Awards

Nominations for the 72nd annual Emmy Awards were unveiled this week, with three going to AFTRS alumni.

Two of the three are being recognised for their work on hit Netflix series Unorthodox. Costume designer Justine Seymour (Master of Arts (Film & Television) Design, 2000) is a contender in the Contemporary Costumes category, up against costume teams for black-ish (ABC), Euphoria (HBO), Grace & Frankie (Netflix), Killing Eve (BBC), The Politician (Netflix) and Schitt’s Creek (Pop TV), while Antonio Gambale (Graduate Certificate in Screen Composition, 1999) is being recognised for his score on the series, nominated in the Music Composition For a Limited Series, Movie or Special category alongside composers for Netflix’s Hollywood, Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere, FX’s Mrs. America, and HBO’s Watchmen.

Multi-award winning screenwriter Tony McNamara (Bachelor of Arts (Film & Television) Scriptwriting, 1995) continues his streak, receiving a nomination in the Writing for a Comedy Series category for his genre-bending comedy-drama The Great, starring Elle Fanning and Nicolas Hoult. In the category, he’s up against writers for The Good Place (Netflix), Schitt’s Creek and What We Do in the Shadows (FX).

This comes shortly after sweeping last year’s awards season for The Favourite, which claimed Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations, BAFTA and AACTA wins and numerous other prizes and nominations.

Winners for the 72nd Emmy Awards will be announced on Sunday 20 September (Monday 21 September for Australia).
