Tim Guthrie, a 2018 graduate of the Master of Arts Screen, has been nominated for an Ellie Award for his work editing AFTRS Masters feature Sequin in a Blue Room.
The Australian Screen Editors Guild’s annual awards celebrate the work of some of Australia’s most talented screen editors, and Tim Guthrie – a student when he cut Sequin in a Blue Room – is up against editors who worked on major Australian features Ladies in Black, Judy & Punch and I Am Mother.
The feature, which is the directorial debut of 2018 MA graduate Samuel Van Grinsven, had its world premiere at Sydney Film Festival – where it took out the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature after two sell-out screenings and a standing ovation – and has since been on a world tour, winning over audiences and garnering international acclaim.
“Tim Guthrie worked very hard for six months to craft the feature Sequin in a Blue Room into the engrossing and original tale that it is. Guthrie handled the pressure and the long hours with aplomb and never stopped offering creative solutions to the team and the director. This ASE nomination is a unique achievement as no other student film has ever been nominated for best feature edit. Well done and congratulations from the editing department at AFTRS.” – Roland Gallois, Head of EditingGallois
Among the other nominees are seven other AFTRS alumni, some of which are recognised across multiple categories. Congratulations to Kelly Searancke, Brad Hurt, Karen Pearlman, Danielle Boesenberg, James Manche, Andrew Macneil ASE and Mark Perry ASE.
