AFTRS Alumni Celebrated at the 2019 AACTA Awards

'Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan’

Several AFTRS alumni have been recognised at the 2019 AACTA Awards for their work across various disciplines in film, television and documentary, at what was a monumental year for the event.

Kriv Stenders’ (Red Dog, Australia Day) buzz-worthy Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan has been awarded the Best Sound prize, recognising the talented alumni-heavy sound team who worked on the film: supervising sound editor Alicia Slusarski (Certificate, 1991), sound mixer Robert Sullivan (Bachelor of Arts – Film & Television Sound, 1986) and dialogue editor Tony Murtagh (Bachelor of Arts – Film & Television Sound, 1985).

The Australian Dream, a feature which was created with EP Paul Wiegard (Master of Screen Arts & Business, 2015) has been awarded Best Documentary.

Cinematographer Paul Bell (Cinematography Documentary Certificate, 2000) has been recognised for his work (alongside Dan Proud and Jon Shaw) on Magical Land of Oz – Episode 1: Oceans, winning Best Cinematography in a Documentary.

Best Short Film went to Jane Cho’s The Egg, which features the work of editor Lucas Baynes (Diploma in Editing Fundamentals, 2016) and Best Online Comedy or Drama was awarded to Robbie Hood, edited by Kelly Cameron (Master of Screen Arts, 2017; Graduate Diploma in Editing, 2012).
