Congratulations to Advanced Diploma Screenwriting: Series TV graduate Leanne Mangan – who has been nominated for the 2018 AWG Monte Miller Awards in the short form category for The Morning After.
The Monte Miller is the most prestigious award in Australia for emerging writers – entrants must not have any broadcast credits.
The award-winners will officially be announced at the Monte Miller Awards night in Melbourne on 27 February 2018, presented by the Australian Writers’ Guild in association with Screen Australia.
Leanne Mangan graduated from UNSW with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Drama. Initially a performer, she went on to act in many plays and musicals, as well as doing short films and extra work in film and TV.
Seeing a lack of roles for women over 40, Leanne began to write for performance. For the Sydney Fringe Festival she wrote, performed in and produced the alt/goth musical In Between Days (at the King St Theatre in 2013), featuring music from the Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Morrissey, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Faith No More.
Leanne realised her obsession with TV and film could be connected to her love of writing, and after several online screenwriting courses, applied to study at AFTRS.
She graduated in 2016 with an Advanced Diploma in Screenwriting: Series TV, and completed Semester 1 of the Advanced Diploma in Script Editing for Production in 2017. She has been studying under writing coach Daniel Calvisi (USA) since then, developing a feature film script, and is working on another short film script, a sitcom and a dramedy pilot.
