Our cinematography department has more than enough reason to celebrate after alumni picked up 16 individual awards across 8 categories at last weekend’s Australian Cinematographers Society NSW and ACT Branches 2018 Annual Awards.
Notably, recent graduates Emma Elias and Zachary Hardaker (both Bachelor of Arts (Screen), 2017) won the Student Cinematography award for their respective AFTRS films, Hate Dance and Wake, while Zoe White ASC (Master of Arts: Film and Television Cinematography, 2008) took home the Gold award in the Drama Series & Telefeatures category for her work on the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
In another huge turn, four AFTRS alumni received ACS accreditation on the night; Josh Flavell ACS (Graduate Diploma: Cinematography, 2010), Joel Froome ACS (Graduate Diploma: Cinematography, 2009), Tania Lambert ACS (Master of Arts: Film and Television Cinematography, 2008) and Marden Dean ACS (Master of Arts: Film and Television Cinematography, 2008). The process of accreditation involves an exhaustive assessment of member’s excellent and consistency of craft, and only 397 cinematographers have been accredited since 1952.
