The odds of taking home a trophy at this year’s Screen Music Awards look good for AFTRS alumnus Matteo Zingales (Graduate Diploma (Film and Television) Screen Composition, 2003), who has earned himself a total of six nominations, four from collaborations with his frequent musical partner Antony Partos – including Feature Film Score of the Year for HBO’s Fahrenheit 451 – and two as a solo composer.
Close behind in the nominations race is alumna and Australian Guild of Screen Composers president Caitlin Yeo (Graduate Diploma (Film and Television) Screen Composition, 2003), earning herself four nominations including Feature Film Score of the Year for The Butterfly Tree.
Alumni earning one nomination apiece are former The Go-Betweens member Amanda Brown (Graduate Certificate in Screen Composition, 1999) for Best Original Song Composed for the Screen for Grace Beside Me, co-composed with Emily Wurramara, Basil Hogios (Master of Arts: Film, Television and Digital Media Screen Composition, 2004) for Best Music for a Short Film for The Passion Films: Alice, and Nicholas West in Best Music for an Advertisement for his work co-composing Tourism Tasmania: Go Behind the Scenery XI.
The awards will be staged jointly by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers on 18 November 2018. A full list of nominees can be found here. A list of nominated alumni is below.
