Alumna Vedrana Music (Graduate Diploma in Directing, 2014; Graduate Certificate Screen: Cinematography, 2017), took home the award for Best Australian Short at the Antenna Documentary Film Festival last weekend for her AFTRS project Handout, made under the teaching and mentoring of Graduate Certificate Screen: Cinematography Lecturer Justine Kerrigan. In the poetic five-minute film, Zelijka, a woman caught up in war, retells the story of her escape from Sarajevo with the first UN Convoy taking mothers and children to Belgrade in 1992. A special mention went to Barbara, written and co-directed by Larissa Behrendt (Graduate Diploma in Documentary, 2013; Graduate Diploma in Screenwriting, 2012), and shot by Marden Dean (Master of Arts: Film and Television Cinematography, 2008)
Additionally Two Wolves, the debut feature film by current Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production students Daniel White and William Hadinata, received a special mention in the festival’s Best Australian Feature competition. The incredibly personal film delves into a bizarre tradition of director Daniel White’s family, and was made entirely with a crew of fellow students.
Congratulations to all AFTRS alumni and students who had films selected for the festival. A full list of them can be found here.
