We are excited to announce a new Scholarship with Virgin Australia.
The $20,000 annual scholarship will be on offer for the next three years beginning with the 2018 academic year intake. The scholarship will assist one student a year with course fees and living expenses, and is open to applicants outside of NSW to encourage talent from all corners of the country to apply. Virgin Australia will also support the successful applicant with a return flight to Sydney and back home.
Virgin Australia first partnered with AFTRS last year to launch a dedicated channel for short films on their In-Flight Entertainment program. The channel presents several programs throughout the year from some of Australia’s brightest young filmmakers as well as early work from AFTRS alumni greats such as Phillip Noyce, Jane Campion, Warwick Thornton and Gillian Armstrong. Recently the airline screened a special NAIDOC program which featured a selection of early work from Indigenous alumni including Ivan Sen (Goldstone, Mystery Road) and Catriona McKenzie (Satellite Boy, Redfern Now).

AFTRS CEO, Neil Peplow, said: “This new scholarship is an exciting expansion of the School’s important partnership with Virgin Australia. I am particularly delighted that the scholarship is to be offered to a recipient from outside NSW as AFTRS is committed to providing opportunities for content creators from across all of Australia to study at the national screen and broadcast school.”
