There’s never been a better time for Victorian screen industries. In 2019, production expenditure surpassed $250million for the first time and created more than 8000 job opportunities. It’s time to celebrate – and to meet some of the screen business icons driving our industry forward.

The first ever Make It Monthly in Melbourne brings together some of the best Melbourne has to offer to share insights, have a laugh and inspire others to get a share of this thriving industry.

Tickets are free but bookings essential.

The event starts 6pm prompt. Networking and drinks will follow from 7pm.

Tony Ayres

Think Glitch, Wanted, The Devil’s Playground, Old School, Seven Types of Ambiguity, Nowhere Boys, Maximum Choppage, Barracuda, The Family Law, Cut Snake, Ali’s Wedding, Walking On Water, Home Song Stories – among many others. They are all the work of Tony Ayres.

And he’s currently the showrunner for upcoming US Netflix series Clickbait, and he co-created and EP’d the Matchbox/ABC refugee detention centre drama Stateless alongside Cate Blanchett and Elise McCredie. Stateless stars Yvonne Strahovski, Jai Courtney, Dominic West and Cate Blanchett.

Adam Elliot

His animated films and imagery are what he calls, Clayographies, clay animated biographies based on the bittersweet lives of his family and friends. He has created six animated films including, Mary and Max, Harvie Krumpet, Ernie Biscuit, Brother, Cousin and Uncle.

They have been voiced by some of the world’s leading actors, including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Geoffrey Rush, Barry Humphries, Eric Bana and Toni Collette. Viewed by millions of people around the world his works have participated in over eight hundred film festivals and won over 100 awards, including the 2004 Academy award for Harvie Krumpet. They have won six AFI/ AACTA Awards from nine nominations.

His first feature film, Mary and Max, had its World Premiere on the Opening Night of Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival, and in 2010 it was included in IMDB’s Top 250 Films of all time. Popular on Netflix the film is currently being developed into a Broadway Musical, and to date there have been six stage adaptations produced in Europe.

He is currently developing his new feature film with his Co-producer Liz Kearney. They hope to have it completed and released by 2021.

Sonya Pemberton

Sonya is one of Australia’s leading factual television producers specialising in science. 2012 Emmy Award-winner and record-breaking five-time winner of the prestigious Eureka Award for Science Journalism, her passion is quality science programming.

She has written, directed and produced over 60 hours of broadcast documentary, her films winning over 70 international awards. She also executive-produced many award-winning factual series and one-off programs, including the 2015 global science-history series Uranium: Twisting The Dragon’s Tail for SBS, PBS and ZDF/ARTE.

As a writer and director, her films include the critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning documentaries including the 2013 SBS feature length special on immunisation, Jabbed: Love, Fear and Vaccines, followed by Vaccines – Calling the Shots for PBS NOVA in the USA. The multi award winning film Catching Cancer was an expose of viruses causing cancer, and her film Immortal which featured the work of Nobel Laureate Elizabeth Blackburn, won the 2012 Emmy award for Outstanding Science programming.

Her latest film is Vitamania – the sense and nonsense of vitamins for SBS, ARTE and CuriosityStream.
