Indrani Kopal, a respected screen professional and educator from Malaysia, is embarking on the next chapter of her decorated career at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). Indrani is an award-winning documentary director and editor with over 15 years of global practice spanning Southeast Asia and the United States. Currently in her second year of the Master of Arts Screen: Business (MASB), Indrani spoke with FilmInk about her experience so far and the myriad of opportunities unfolding before her.
Initially daunted by the prospect of picking up her career in a new country, Indrani has thrived since relocating to Australia and commencing her studies at AFTRS, appreciating the innovative nature and entrepreneurial focus of the program.
“What surprised me about the curriculum was the focus on making students into an entrepreneur and a leader, with so many industry leaders coming to chat to us in the classroom,” Indrani told FilmInk. “I feel that they’re preparing me for the next 10 years.”
It’s the focus on creative leadership and contemporary screen business that makes the Master of Arts Screen: Business such a unique program. Through finance, innovation and project development subjects, and culminating with a capstone project, the MASB aspires to develop graduates into visionary, highly skilled entrepreneurs and leaders able to enrich Australian culture, expand and grow the Australian screen economy, build businesses and achieve high-level, sustainable careers.
Studying with a cohort consisting of diverse industry experience, Indrani can not only build her screen business skills, but network with her industry peers, as they all undertake their own distinctive journeys.
