Podcasts are great for exploring storytelling ideas, finding an audience, and adding audio to your communication mix. Whether you want to grow your audience, improve your marketing, and brand presence, or connect with others, creating podcast content can help you reach many people through your topics of interest.
In 2023, the number of people in Australia listening to podcasts reached a record high of 43%. This increase is partly due to more people listening to podcasts between 2020 and 2021. And considering the number of podcast listeners has been increasing by around 3% yearly, by 2030, more than two-thirds of Australians could listen to podcasts monthly.
In May, the Australian Podcast Ranker, revealed that the average number of weekly listeners increased by 3.51% to 5.9 million, marking the highest-ever monthly listener figure.
With Podcasting for Your Brand, you will learn how to create a podcast through the entire production process, from developing the pilot episode to understanding your audience and generating ideas.
We spoke with Grahame Grassby, who has recently released his podcast My Singalong with Catters & Mouseman, about his insights on the course and how it assisted his production. Here are Grahame’s insights on Podcasting for Your Brand.
What drew you to the Podcasting for Your Brand course, and how did it prepare you to create your podcast?
“Podcasting for Your Brand [online] is a 3-week course that explains everything you need to know about creating, producing, distributing and marketing a podcast. I took the course in September 2023, and along with my podcast partner, Deb Ryan, we launched the My Singalong with Catters & Mouseman podcast.
This is a monthly music podcast for 3 – 5-year-olds, and every episode is packed with excitement as Catters & Mouseman bring to life a range of engaging segments – from guessing mystery sounds to solving a riddle, facing a tongue-twister challenge, to the three favourite things game with featured guests.
I found the Podcasting for Your Brand course to be very thorough and allowed us to have the confidence to create and release our podcast.”
How did you find the course?
“Our course trainer, Toni Tenaglia, was knowledgeable about how to produce a podcast and created a relaxed and enjoyable online environment for each of the three sessions.
I was happy to do the pre-course homework that was set down before each of the three classes and, as a result, got a lot out of Toni’s classes.
It is definitely the case that the more you prepare for the classes, the more you will understand during each session as there is a lot of ground to cover to get from starting a podcast to releasing it into the wild. Toni certainly made it a trip worth taking.”
What insights did you gain from the course, and how do you apply these in producing My Singalong with Catters & Mouseman?
“I wanted to produce an audio music show for preschoolers that gave preschool children a break from their screens and was fun, entertaining and encouraged them to sing and to dance along, and I chose the AFTRS course as I knew it would be to the point and provide the necessary information I needed to produce our podcast.
Our podcast is a testimony to what can be done once you’ve done the Podcasting for Your Brand course with Toni Tenaglia.”
