AFTRS is proud to congratulate our First Nations graduates for 2022, who we recently honoured at our First Nations Graduation Ceremony on Thursday 11 May.
It was a special evening for the outgoing graduates, as we recognised their incredible achievements and showcased their inspiring work, alongside friends, family, AFTRS staff and industry guests.
Graduating in the class of 2022 were Nazareth Alfred (Bachelor of Screen Production), Kyneisha Murray (Bachelor of Screen: Production), Natalie Agius (Graduate Diploma in Radio and Podcasting), Reilly O’Loughlin (Master of Screen Arts Screen: Production Design), and Joshua Yasserie (Master of Screen Arts Screen: Animation).
Presented by AFTRS’ First Nations and Outreach, the event was an important opportunity to share in the accomplishments of our students, and to support the future of the First Nations screen industry.
AFTRS’ Elder-In-Residence Aunty Rhonda Dixon-Grovenor presented a Welcome to Country, which was followed by a keynote address from Director of First Nations and Outreach Dr. Romaine Moreton. We were honoured to also welcome special guest and second keynote speaker Pauline Clague, Associate Professor, Manager of Cultural Resilience Hub, Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education & Research at UTS, and advisor for the creative arts for Creative Plus Business. And sharing some inspiring words was 2020 Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production alum Bronte Nener.
The celebration also featured a smoking ceremony, dances, a viewing of student work, a presentation of artwork by Cara Hickey-Freeman, and networking with staff and members of the screen industry.
We wish the graduates luck as they enter into the next chapter of their journeys, and look forward as they develop their careers in the screen and broadcast industry.
