Graduate Diploma (Film Television and Digital Media) - Screenwriting, 2004
Screenwriter Michael Lucas made his feature debut with the comedy Not Suitable for Children, directed by AFTRS classmate Peter Templeman. The film opened the 2012 Sydney Film Festival and was nominated for five AACTA Awards, while Michael won the Australian Writers Guild (AWG) Award for best original feature screenplay.
Moving into television, Michael became a writer and script producer on Ten’s Offspring. He wrote 17 episodes across five seasons, winning two AWGIEs for Best Television Screenplay. Michael created, wrote and co-produced the series Party Tricks for the same network in 2014.
He was a writer and storyliner on the fourth season of the Foxtel series Wentworth—for which he was nominated for an AWGIE Award—and script-edited the ABC show Rosehaven. Other writing credits include Sisters, The Wrong Girl, Five Bedrooms and The Newsreader, which he created.
AFTRS HIGHLIGHT
Meeting a plethora of incredible friends and collaborators, many of whom I’m still working with today.
CAREER HIGHLIGHT
Triggering a bout of national mourning after killing Dr. Patrick on Offspring. Either that or stepping up to creator/producer on series like Five Bedrooms and The Newsreader.
