Jules O'Loughlin

Master of Arts (Film & Television) Cinematography; 2003

Jules O’Loughlin ACS ASC is one of the few Australian cinematographers to be accredited by both the Australian and American cinematography societies.

After spending three months at sea with James Cameron in 2010 shooting IMAX documentary Deepsea Challenge, he worked with Cameron again on the 3D adventure film Sanctum.

His series credits include Black Sails, Redfern Now and The Pacific: In the Wake of Captain Cook with Sam Neill.

Other feature credits include Kokoda, September, Come Away featuring Angelina Jolie, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, and Angel Has Fallen, with Gerard Butler. Jules also shot action-comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek, Christmas horror Krampus as well as Kieran Darcy-Smith’s Wish You Were Here and The Duel.

Streaming projects have kept Jules busy in recent times, and we’ll soon see the following on our screens: The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges for Disney+, Joe Vs Carole for Stan, and the Marvel limited series Ms. Marvel.

 

AFTRS HIGHLIGHT

Taking a school car and a trailer to Broken Hill with an old side of film and shooting a spec Levi’s commercial with a small crew of six.

 

CAREER HIGHLIGHT

Being made a member of the ASC (American Society of Cinematographers) — and every time I get to be on set. I love what I do.
