Development opportunity for documentary projects

Headlands: Challenging Documentary

An intensive 10-week program of research, writing, conversation and collaboration.

HEADLANDS is an AFTRS initiative, created by the School's Documentary Department in partnership with:

  • The Australian Film Commission (AFC)
  • Film Victoria
  • South Australian Film Corporation,
  • ScreenWest
  • Screen Tasmania
  • the Northern Territory Film Office
    and
  • Film Australia.

HEADLANDS is the only national documentary development initiative in Australia. It includes a residential week followed by nine weeks supported research and writing time, and culminates in a two day workshop to refine pitching and the positioning of the project in the national and/or international marketplace.

HEADLANDS
encourages partnerships between documentary filmmakers and academic researchers to develop substantial projects from relevant, cutting edge research.

The Artistic Director for HEADLANDS 2008 will be John Hughes -a well known writer, director and producer of documentary and drama for film, television and online projects.
