AFTRS teaching staff are also practitioners who bring recent industry experience to the classes they teach

AFTRS provides students with a deep understanding of the craft of film, television, radio and digital media through hands on production based practice.

With a focus on 'learning by doing' AFTRS staff lead by example. The School is well known for its track record of success and for delivering quality learning and teaching experiences in a friendly and creative environment.

AFTRS teaching staff are also practitioners who bring recent industry experience to the classes they teach - ensuring the teaching and learning experiences of our students is highly relevant and informed by best practice.

In addition to our teaching staff AFTRS is in the fortunate position of being able to tap into a network of high calibre contacts who deliver lectures, run Masterclasses and work with our students - ensuring that the experience of studying at AFTRS is rich and relevant.

The School features a wide range of facilities of value to students, including:

  • research library located on site.
  • Two large professional film and television studios
  • Three small studios
  • A state-of-the-art, 5.1 mixing theatre with seating for 40 - also used for screenings and rushes
  • A full size theatre – with seating for 140 - equipped with 35mm, 16mm, video and high definition digital projection and Dolby sound
  • Three recording studios, eight sound editing suites, four music composition rooms
  • Production support equipment including a grip truck with Movietech Arco dolly and accessories,
  • A video-post department that provides broadcast quality dubbing, HD Avid Adrenaline online editing, Scenarist DVD authoring, web streaming and multicam production services
  • Four computer studios including Mac and PC systems
  • Alias Wavefront Maya for 3D computer graphics, character animation and visual effects projects
  • Professional 16mm, 35mm and digital video cameras.
  • A post-production department that services all studio and post-production needs with a full range of broadcast-quality equipment
  • Two online video editing suites
  • Eight off-line video editing rooms housing both AVID and Final
  • Cut Pro editing systems and a 35mm flat bed film editor
  • Contemporary commercial radio studio facilities including three-on air studios
  • A gaffer truck with a full range of luminaries, stands and accessories and complete props and set construction facilities including extensive props and costume support.
